What UpAI Does

Dr. Boris Richard is the President and CEO of UpAI, LLC – company that augments deep human intelligence with machine learning, neural network and LLM-based methods to create custom proprietary solutions for its clients. He is a senior professional and expert with over 25 years of trading, research and investment experience in securities markets, and consulting track record in cryptocurrencies. In his work, Dr. Richard is focused on TradFi and crypto advisory services and expert work related to securities and digital asset investigations and disputes.

While working at top global investment banks in New York such as Goldman Sachs, Barclays Capital and HSBC Securities, as well as several quantitative hedge funds, Dr. Richard realized the power of AI-based trading strategies and used deep Q-learning algorithms for trading fixed income spreads and identifying optimal entry and exit points for various trades. He also realized that AI-based trading strategies have serious limitations if run unchecked and, for consistent results, must be augmented with human analysis and, when necessary, human decisions.

Since 2018, when Dr. Richard transitioned to the digital asset industry, he focuses on blockchain investigations, digital asset tracing, tokenomics and crypto valuation, cryptocurrency related expert work and testimony, and responses to regulatory inquiries and enforcement actions. Multiple data-heavy aspects of his crypto expert work are based on the powerful symbiosis of deep human intelligence and AI models.

Dr. Richard's clients include major law firms, banks, cryptocurrency exchanges, digital asset issuers,
custodians, Decentralized Finance platforms, blockchain foundations, and institutional investors.

As an established and experienced expert, Dr. Richard testified in matters involving alleged registration violations by digital token issuers, cases of cryptocurrency tracing investigations, alleged crypto market manipulation, digital asset contractual breaches, and disputes relating to crypto asset valuations. Drawing upon his extensive capital markets experience, he also authored multiple RMBS loss causation and damages expert reports, and consulted on issues of alleged anti-competitive and manipulative practices in the US and global fixed income markets.

Dr. Richard presented at various public forums and chaired multiple discussion panels of digital
asset industry executives and attorneys on a variety of cryptocurrency related issues. He is a
repeated presenter at Horasis, Knowledge Group webinars, and CPA Academy Webinars.

Dr. Richard is a member of the Wall Street Blockchain Alliance and a Senior Fellow at the
International Congress of Blockchain Legal Advisors. He is Member of the World Economic Forum. He is also Member of the Financial Club and Virginia State Bar accredited CLE lecturer.

 

Prior to consulting, Dr. Richard was a MBS strategist at Goldman Sachs, served as the head of
agency debt strategy at Barclays Capital, traded a US$2 billion portfolio of callable bonds at
HSBC Securities (USA). Later on, he worked as a quantitative fixed income and mortgage-backed securities hedge fund portfolio manager, generating investment book profits of over $400 million.

Dr. Richard holds Ph.D. Economics degree from Purdue University.
